Meharry Medical College Archives
The Meharry Medical College Archives collects, preserves, organizes, and provides access to archival and historical materials documenting the history of Meharry Medical College and its presidents, alumni and faculty. Our collections include catalogues, class bulletins, photographs, institutional records, artifacts, and personal papers of notable individuals in the history of the College from its inception in 1876 such as past presidents, former deans and department chairs, departmental records and personal collections including the Matthew Walker, M.D. Collection, and the Hubbard Hospital and Metropolitan Nashville General Hospital merger. Other holdings include a biographical collection of Meharrians and outstanding African American health professionals, pictures of early faculty and early buildings on the South Nashville Campus and the North Nashville Campus.
Access
The Archives is open to everyone; researchers are required to contact us prior to visiting by calling 615-327-6470. Please note that access to some collections is restricted. Materials may be photocopied or digitally scanned under the supervision of the Archivist or Archival Assistant. Please contact us for information regarding fees for these services. Photo Identification will be required upon arrival. Food and Beverages are strictly prohibited and only pencils are permitted for research work.
Hours
The MMC Archives is open from 8:00 – 4:30 Monday through Friday.
Historic Meharry Catalogues
The MMC Archives contain the country's most extensive collection of historic Meharry catalogues, alumni newsletters and course announcements dating to 1881. Currently, years 1881-1920 are available, with several years missing from this range.
